Social Media for Artists

Social Media for Artists

This fast-paced seminar will bring you up-to-speed on the current and relevant channels of social media for artists. Learn what to do, what to do more of, and what not to do at all.

The introduction to the evening will be the current top 10 social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, LinkedIn, etc.) What each does, how they work, the benefits each brings, and what you need to know. We will discuss trends and expectations in the near future from social media.

Information more specific to artists includes: How to protect your images, what types of images should be posted where and when, relevant content to post, how much to “put out there”, how the art community (peers, collectors, gallerists) consider your posts, mistakes to avoid and more.

We will focus on the efficient use of your time to maintain a healthy online footprint. Emphasis on what is working and what is not working.

We will critique several attendees use of social media. We’ll offer suggestions and open discussion from the room.

Update: We will include a special coverage of the case of Morel vs. Agence France-Press/Getty. This photographer was recently awarded $1.22 million for having his images taken and published online without proper attribution or compensation.

Update: We will also discuss the most recent Terms of Service from Facebook and what that means to you.
